Common hiking routes
God tur!
Nestled between two national parks, Hallingskarvet and Hardangervidda, Finse is a great starting point for exploring the mountains on foot. From gentle walks to more challenging summit hikes, there’s plenty to discover right on our doorstep.
WHen is the season for hiking?
The hiking season at Finse generally runs from July to September, although every summer is a little different depending on the snow and weather conditions.
June
As the snow begins to melt, the landscape slowly opens up for early summer walks. Conditions can vary, and many trails may still be covered in snow.
July – August
Usually the best months for hiking, with long days, more accessible trails and plenty of opportunities to explore the surrounding mountains.
September
Crisp air, autumn colours and fewer visitors make this a beautiful time to explore on foot. Just remember that the first snowfall can arrive early.
October
Autumn gradually gives way to winter. Conditions can change quickly, and hiking is best suited to experienced, well-prepared guests.
A little about hiking in Finse
In Norway, we have something called allemannsretten, or the right to roam. It gives everyone the freedom to explore, as long as we do so responsibly and with respect for nature.
Around Finse, some routes follow well-marked trails, while others lead into unmarked mountain terrain where a little more experience and preparation are needed. Wherever your feet take you, remember to check the weather, respect the wildlife and leave nature just as you found it.
